| Business Liaisons 2-6 hours a month, year-round 6-8 volunteers/subcommittees Co-chairs: Kelli Williams, Matt Blankenship and Ryan Pasley | Engage with local businesses, neighborhood organizations and civic groups to strengthen our network, represent our school in the planning and decision-making for community events and development projects, and foster a shared vision with our neighbors for the future of our school. Attend neighborhood and business alliance meetings and report back to the PTA Board. Help plan and advertise APS Spirit Nights at local eateries (e.g. Galla's, Elwood's, Rita's). Help other committees garner business support (e.g. Fall Festival, Teacher Appreciation Week). Coordinate our business partnerships with Kroger, Publix, Box Tops, and Campbell's Soup Labels. |
| Cultural Arts 2-6 hours a month, August-May Brookhaven Arts Festival and PTA Reflections in the fall 6-8 volunteers Co-chairs: Michele Huff and Tiffany Black-Wilson | Schedule cultural events and performances for the student body. Support art teacher on projects and programs including PTA Reflections. Work with the Brookhaven Arts Alliance to ensure high level of student participation in Brookhaven Arts Festival. Coordinate other arts-related activities as determined by committee, such as silent auction, Talent Show, and family arts and crafts night. |

Help with projects in Outdoor Classroom (e.g. water conservation, composting, bird/butterfly attraction, native plantings). Educate students and parents about environmental issues. |

| Hospitality 1-2 hours a month, August-May 10-20 volunteers Chair: Fumi Yanagawa | Provide refreshments at various PTA events and meetings. Obtain food and beverage donations from local businesses. Set up, serve, and clean up at events such as PTA Spaghetti Supper, Kindergarten Registration, Book Fair family events, and when APS hosts the DCPC or other civic meetings. |
| Latin American Engagement 4-6 hours a month, August-May 2-4 volunteers Chair: TBD | Provide translation services for flyers, monthly newsletter, web site, and other communication vehicles as needed. Be a welcoming presence to Spanish speakers at PTA events and school functions, and translate as needed. Promote and increase PTA membership of Latino families and be a resource for their questions or concerns. |
| Legislative & Advocacy 2-4 hours a month, year-round 2-6 volunteers Chair: Heather Chasman | Stay current with state and national PTA legislative watches and communicate issues to APS membership. Hold informational meetings and contribute to monthly newsletter, web site, and other communication vehicles as needed. Recruit and mobilize additional volunteers for advocacy efforts (e.g. the recent proposal to cut school nurses from the budget). |
| Family & Community Engagement 8-24 hours over 10 months Open House/Kindergarten Preview event in January Realtor Breakfast 10-12 volunteers Co-chairs: Lee Williams and Marcie Hanish | Promote APS in the community. Attend neighborhood and civic events to keep community informed about us and help align our vision and goals. Provide individual tours as required. Special focus for 2009-10: study and make recommendations to Principal about morning and afternoon carpool procedures, possibly followed by recruiting and mobilizing volunteers to communicate and implement improvements. |

Focus for 2009-10: to assess our current state of health, knowledge, understanding, and attitudes towards wellness, and then prepare a plan to improve the overall wellness of our school community |
